Sunrise over the Gulf Islands

September 11, 2009 | Johan | , , | comment »

Waking up to a breathtakingly beautiful sunrise is one of the finer pleasures in life. It never fails to bring a big smile to my face and gets me excited to get up and make the most of the day. Such a fine beginning is surely a sign of even better things to come!

Another fine summer day, with an early BC Ferry on the horizon

Since my bedroom faces east, I rise with the sun every day. This is a natural rhythm which not only feels good but is in perfect tune with the seasons. In the height of summer, the sun will wake me around 5:45 to suck every minute out of another sunny summer day. Right now in mid-September, as the northern hemisphere tilts ever further away from the sun, the sun already rises a full hour later.

Cloudy skies make for a surreal scene

The vista over the ocean and the islands is never the same twice, like a fine painting being constantly redrawn. Some days, the sheer beauty of the scene will literally stop you in your tracks, just to stand there and take it all in for a minute. This post features some of my favorite photo’s taken from our balcony. As you probably know, even the best camera fails in capturing the true beauty and grandeur of the scene – but it’s close!
